About The Artist
Sarah Bernard, also known in the DJ world as The Salivation Army, is also a writer, a singer-songwriter and a musician.
She grew up in Haiti where she pursued most of these passions from an early age, and started DJing at the age of 14 after witnessing house party goers being repeatedly annoyed by the “too many iPods in charge of the dancefloor” problem that plagued the era.
Now, years later as The Salivation Army, her unique mix of Dancehall, Afrobeats, Haitian Ragga and much more that falls under her “BootyBass” umbrella, is designed to get the bodies bouncing and the dancefloors writhing. As a singer-songwriter, Sarah writes songs for guitar and piano that are clearly influenced by her Haitian upbringing, as well as blues, folk and neo-soul.
Sarah Bernard started writing poetry as early as 8 years old, but as an adult she was surprised to find much more inspiration in writing short stories, and of course, music. She wouldn’t describe herself as based anywhere at the moment, as she travels between Haiti and Canada so often, and makes herself available to perform absolutely anywhere.
