DONATONS AND HOW YOU CAN HELP

Many Non-Profit organizations have made their way to Haiti under the premise of charity and development. Millions are donated by people who have the desire to do something for the people of Haiti through channels of Western fronts. While this is great, these Non-Profit organizations overshadow the Grassroots organizations in Haiti, who attempt to create change by the standard of its participants and the region they inhabit. In consequence, community centered change whose roots visions and missions are rooted in the cultural and socio-political experiences of the people in Haiti, are forgotten.

This page was created as a resource guide for those who would like to divest from the vulturous Non-Profit sector that barricades the people of Haiti, and support Grassroots movements as an alternative. This list will include organizations that center TLGBQ+ Haitians and other on the ground movements for the marginalized populations. This resource guide is a working list; thus, we will be adding more organizations as we get in contact with them.

It is important to note that banking institutions found in Western nations are not accessible to Haiti. What this means for donations is that they are - when directed towards small community organizations - harder to make. The process is longer and may involve filling out a form and paying fees. All organizations listed are in need of financial and material support, so we ask that our supporters and those who believe in the power of mutual aid to take the time out needed to help.

TRANSGENDER IN HAITI

Transgender in Haiti is a movement and organization led by Yaisah Val for Transgender/Queer rights in Haiti. It's main components and goals are

- Kay Trans - which is a shelter to house dislocated Haitian transgender people, and provide them with the vocabulary and tools to navigate the world with their identity.

 - Transgender in Haiti, which is essentially a campaign that searches to educate people on the transgender experience in Haiti.  During civil unrest in Haiti, queer phobia heightens and they face increased danger. This makes their work less possible, and most importantly, with no funds, the shelter cannot function properly.
